Park Rules:

The Skate Park in Pioneer Park opened in July 2000. The City built the Skate Park to provide the growing numbers of skaters and skateboarders with a safe and challenging place to practice a popular sport. The Skate Park is open between dawn and dusk each day.

To keep the Skate Park safe place to skate, and to maintain the Skate Park in good repair, the City Council adopted Ordinance 785 N.S. to establish the rules for the use of the Skate Park. The rules are:

1. Use of the Skate Park is limited to skate boards and inline or roller skates with composition wheels.
Bicycles and scooters are not permitted.

2. All users of the Skate Park are required to wear appropriate safety gear, including helmets, elbow pads and knee pads at all times.

3. Smoking is not permitted at the Skate Park.

4. All persons using the Skate Park shall do so at their own risk.

5. A violation of any part of Ordinance 785 N.S. (that is, the first three rules) is an infraction for which a citation ("ticket") can be issued. The fines for such violations are:

a. For a first offense, the fine shall be $20.00;

b. For a second offense, the fine shall be $50.00;

c. For a third or subsequent offense within any 12 month period, the offender's right to use the Skate Park shall be suspended for a period of not less than 6 consecutive months.

Why do we have these rules?

Bicycles and scooters are not permitted for two reasons: (1) when bicycles and scooters fall on the concrete, they can gouge the surface, damaging the Skate Park and making it unsafe for skaters and skateboarders; and (2) the Skate Park was designed and built for use by skaters and skateboarders; having bicyclists and scooter riders in the Skate Park at the same time as skaters poses substantially higher safety risks to everyone using the Skate Park.

The wearing of safety gear (helmets, elbow pads and knee pads) is not only a good idea to minimize serious injury, it is State Law (California Health and Safety Code Section 115800) If Skate Park users do not keep this rule and wear safety gear, the City may have to close the Skate Park.
